About Us
The Milwaukee Women’s District Golf Association (MWDGA) was organized in 1934 with eight clubs participating. The affiliated clubs were: Blue Mound, Milwaukee, North Hills, North Shore, Ozaukee, Tripoli, Tuckaway, and Westmoor. The first President was Mrs. Paul Parker from Westmoor. The format for play was match play in twosomes. In 1935 by-laws were formulated. In 1948 the bylaws were revised.
Throughout the years, a few clubs were added and some dropped out.
In 1955 the district association consisted of ten participating clubs, which are the same as those today plus Merrill Hills and Brynwood.
The Blue and Gold divisions began with 12 players on each team and 6 alternates.
In 1974 it was voted to change the format to foursomes match play and points (Nassau) for best ball with partner.
In 1975 it was voted to change the format to best ball in foursomes using Chicago District System for scoring-lowest handicap player playing at scratch.
In 1978 the team positions were determined by U.S.G.A. handicap order.
In 2007, Brynwood pulled out of the league and Oconomowoc Golf Club joined.
In 2017, Tripoli Country Club was purchased and changed its name to University Club of Milwaukee.
A Board of Director’s meeting is held in spring (May) and fall (October), the second Tuesday of the month.
Each club plays four times and hosts one time. Tournaments are played the second and fourth Friday’s in June and July. In August, the regular play is on the first Friday and a play off between the Blue and Gold divisions on the second Friday.
Field Day is held the second Friday in September. This is a fun tournament where a foursome is a mix of four clubs. If finances permit, a donation of $1000 is made to a charity after a presentation by the 1st Vice President (new) and a discussion and vote by the board at the annual meeting. The annual meeting is held the same day as Field Day. The slate of officers for the following year is presented and voted upon.
Championship medals and a team trophy are presented along with the runner-ups.
A Tournament of Champions Event is generally held the last Friday in September following Field Day at a host club. Each club sends a pro, the ladies club champion, and the runner-up.
The fall meeting is held the second Tuesday in October.
